PRELUDE: Hope you all are ready for Christmas. Doesn't seem like I'm ever ready. Today is also our 57th wedding anniversary and I'm battling mightily to stay out of the doghouse. I'm really not being that serious. I must have got something right to last 57 years don't you think so?
I'm making notes on your grandfather as I remember him, but I find it is a bit much for me to put it in a coherent chronological order. I don't know that I could even if I had the time because of memory fragmentation. So what I propose to do is send you e-mails of bits and pieces as I think of them and let you coordinate them. For instance, I have mental images of Sam at home, at school, at the beach, fishing, playing cricket, cutting wood, rounding up cattle and things we did at Christmas in Cayman and also here in America - nothing spectacular for anyone else, but very meaningful for me for Sam was always (or almost always) a lot of fun and a best friend.
I will have to give you all of this in e-mail form as I have not had a chance to learn how to cut or paste. One of these days I hope to take time out to practice sending attachments. I do not know the limit of text I can send, so I will type in the word “END” at the bottom to let you know that is all "she wrote."
By the way, I'm not sure when Sam came to America. Sam or Sybil might be able to tell you. There should have been among his personal effects his original Cayman passport or an immigration document of some kind; also a record of seaman's service (as I think he went to sea before going to Pt. Arthur Business College). I'm sure he must have come to America somewhere between ages 16-18.
Well, I hope to send you your first installment in the next few days.
Love to All, Walter
